Highlights Of 2007
JANUARY - FEBRUARY



1. Group’s Strategic Business Meetings
About 220 senior managers from the companies in the Group including directors and HQ functional heads attended the Strategic Business Meeting at the Group Head Office to brainstorm and set the direction going forward in 2007.

2. Parkson Cares for Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation
Parkson Cares under Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd launched a fundraising drive through the sale of ‘Fly Our Dreams’ album released by the wife of our Group Chairman and CEO, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng in aid of Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia.

3. Lion DRI Signed Agreement with CVRD
Lion DRI Sdn Bhd signed an agreement for the long-term supply of pellets with CVRD (Companhia Vale do Rio Doce) International of Brazil on 17 January 2007. Group Chairman & CEO, Tan Sri William Cheng represented Lion DRI while CVRD was represented by its Commercial Director, Mr Renato Almeida.

4. Parkson TD Plaza Opens in Hai Phong, Vietnam
Parkson TD Plaza was officially opened in Hai Phong city in Vietnam on 5 January 2007. Located in the new urban area of Cat Bi Airport, District of Ngo Quyen; it has a total trading area of 18,000 square metres over 4 floors.

5. Balanced Scorecard Training for Directors
About 30 directors from our public listed companies attended a one-day training programme on "Balanced Scorecard as a Strategic Instrument" at the Head Office in Menara Citibank on 7 March 2007.

6. SIT Corporate Learning Centre is now CEDR Corporate Consulting Sdn Bhd
SIT Corporate Learning Centre Sdn Bhd changed its name to CEDR Corporate Consulting Sdn Bhd with effect from 30 March 2007.


7. Tiara Melaka 4th Best Golf Course
Tiara Melaka Golf and Country Club was ranked the 4th best golf course in Malaysia by U.S. Golf Digest, an American golf publication.

8. Silverstone Launched Q-Year 2007
Silverstone Berhad in Taiping declared the year as its 'Quality Year 2007' with the objective to rejuvenate the 'Q' spirit and enthusiasm among all employees through their active participation and involvement.

MAY - JUNE


9. LGMAF Donates Dialysis Machine to Pusat Dialysis Tuanku Syed Putra
The Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund (LGMAF) donated a haemodialysis machine costing RM37,000 to the Pusat Dialysis Tuanku Syed Putra - National Kidney Foundation in Kangar, Perlis. The opening ceremony of the dialysis centre was officiated by the Raja Perlis, DYMM Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail on 19 May 2007.

10. LGMAF Presented RM179,100 to HUKM
The Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund (LGMAF) presented a mock cheque for RM179,100 to Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) for 22 of its patients sponsored by the Fund in year 2006. LGMAF Chairman and Group Director, Jen (B) Tan Sri Dato' Zain Mahmud Hashim presented the mock cheque to HUKM Director, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohamad Abdul Razak.

11. Lion-ASM Foundation Awards Financial Assistance to Outstanding Students
Lion-ASM Foundation awarded financial assistance totalling RM259,000 to 10 undergraduates based on their financial background, academic performance, extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities.

12. Visit by High Commissioner of Australia
The High Commissioner of Australia, HE Penny Williams paid a visit to our Group Head Office on 31 May 2007. On hand to receive Her Excellency were Group Chairman & CEO Tan Sri William Cheng who is also the President of Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) and Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSCCCI); Group Executive Director, Datuk Albert Cheng; and council members of ACCCIM and KLSCCCI.



13. Parkson Opens New Store at Seberang Jaya
Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd opened its new store at Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Prai on 22 June 2007. The store occupies 130,000 sq ft over two floors and carries more than 230 brands of merchandise.

14. Parkson Sunway Pyramid Store Re-opens
Parkson re-opened its store at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall in Bandar Sunway on 30 June 2007, which had been closed for relocation and renovation. The store, covering 100,000 sq ft in retail space over 3 floors is the first of all Parkson stores designed with a new concept aimed at the young and trendy.

15. Megasteel APs Completed Training
8 June 2007 was a day to remember for 30 Megasteel Sdn Bhd’s Auxiliary Police (AP) personnel when Kuala Langat Police Chief, Supt Zulkifli Mohamad inspected the guard-of-honor followed by a demonstration on self-defence techniques, "T-Baton" and "Karate". The AP personnel had earlier attended a two-month training course at Pusat Latihan Polis Bakri (PULAPOL) in Muar, Johor.

16. Recognition for Silverstone Staff
400 Silverstone Berhad staff in Taiping received recognition for their good working ethics, loyalty and dedication to the company. 180 employees received the Long Service Awards while another 320 staff received the Perfect Attendance Awards.

JULY - AUGUST


17. Sponsorship for African Lion at Zoo Negara
The Group pledged its sponsorship for an African lion at Zoo Negara for four years. Group Director, Gen (R) Tan Sri Dato' Zain Mahmud Hashim presented the Group's sponsorship to the President of the Malaysian Zoological Society, Dato' Ismail Hudson on 24 July 2007.

18. Agreement Signing with Vinashin, Vietnam
Our Group has teamed up with Vietnam’s state-owned Shipbuilding Industry Group, Vinashin to conduct a feasibility study to build a steel mill in Ninh Thuan province in central Vietnam. Group Chairman & CEO, Tan Sri William Cheng signed on behalf of the Group while Vinashin was represented by its Chairman & CEO, Mr Pham Thanh Binh. The signing was witnessed by Vietnam’s Prime Minister, The Honourable Nguyen Tan Dung who was in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with our nation’s 50th Merdeka Celebration.



19. Parkson Opens 3rd Store in Vietnam
Parkson opened its 3rd store in Vietnam on 29 June 2007, in the new Hung Vuong Plaza which is the largest complex in Ho Chi Minh City and in Vietnam. Hung Vuong Plaza is surrounded by the four most crowded and busy streets of district 5 namely Hung Vuong, Ly Thuong Kiet, Nguyen Kim and Pham Huu Chi.

20. Visit by The Haiphong People’s Committee of Vietnam
A15-member delegation from The Haiphong People’s Committee of Vietnam, led by its Chairman, Mr Trinh Quang Su visited Megasteel, Bandar Mahkota Cheras and Parkson KLCC on 15 August 2007.

21. Smart Partnership with Kastam DiRaja Malaysia
A Smart Partnership meeting between Kastam DiRaja Malaysia and Megasteel Sdn Bhd was held in Wisma Lion in Banting, Selangor Darul Ehsan to exchange views and information on the steel industry including training the customs officers on steel products.



22. Amalgamated Containers Berhad is now Parkson Holdings Berhad
With effect from 19 September 2007, Amalgamated Containers Berhad is known as Parkson Holdings Berhad.

23. Parkson Pavilion Opens in Full Grandeur
Parkson Pavilion was opened on 18 September 2007 by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Haji Mohd Shafie Apdal. Covering 240,000 square feet over four levels, this world-class flagship store offers a complete shopping experience for all.

24. Blue Ocean Strategy Awareness Programme
93 participants including Group Chairman and CEO, Tan Sri William Cheng, CEOs, GMs and senior managers of the Group attended the Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) Awareness Programme on 6 October 2007.

25. Parkson Wins Malaysia Tourism Award 2005/2006
Parkson was presented with the Malaysia Tourism Award 2005/2006 for ‘Most Supportive Shopping Outlet: Department Store’, a recognition for individuals and organizations excelling in the development of Malaysia’s tourism industry.
