Overall champion Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand. | Tiara Melaka Golf & Country Club (TGMCC) played host to a Professional Golf Championship, the Heritage Melaka Classic from 9 to 12 June 2009 with an international field of 134 professional golfers from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Brunei and sponsored invites from India, Japan, Korea and Australia. The event with a USD50,000.00 purse was co-presented by the Mercedes Benz Tour and ASEAN PGA.
Among the big names were Danny Chia, Ben Leong and Airil Rizman from Malaysia, Lam Chih Bing and Mardan Mamat from Singapore, Thaworn Wiratchant and Wisut Artjanawat from Thailand, and Antonio Lascuna, Mars Pucay and Juvic Pagunsan from Philippines. The overall champion was Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand with a four days 12-under par 276, scores of 69, 69, 70 & 68 while the second and third placings went to Singaporeans Lam Chih Bing (11-under) and Mardan Mamat (10-under) respectively.
In recognition of its contribution to the state’s tourism efforts, the event was supported by the Malacca State Government with the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam sponsoring the challenge and winner trophies, attending the ceremonial tee-off and giving away the prizes to the winners. |
