Yueyang, a large city in Hunan Province, central China has seen rapid development in the last few years with a growing middle class population, modern buildings and foreign businesses.

Historically, Yueyang was known as Baa Ling and was also called Yuezhou in ancient times. It is located at the juncture of Dongting Lake and Yangtze River; and is famous because of Dongting Lake, the second largest freshwater lake in China. Amid the lake is Junshan Island, home to the silver needle tea while on the banks is Yueyang Tower, a favorite subject of some of China's great poets.

The city is best visited during the Dragon Boat Festival on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month (June or July). Dragon boat racing is said to have begun in Yueyang and tourists can enjoy the festive atmosphere as the crowd cheer on the rowers.
