Anshan is the third largest prefecture level city in Liaoning Province. It is situated in the central area of the province, about 92km south of Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning. Among the attractions in Anshan is Mt. Qianshan which is also known as the ‘mountain of 1000 lotus flowers’. Located 18 kilometers southeast of the city, the mountain is a noted attraction for its scenic areas with numerous tourist spots, including buildings from the Sui and Tang dynasties. The 70-meter tall sitting Maitreya Buddha is a spectacular sight here.

Another attraction is the Jade Buddha Garden which was built in the 1990s to preserve the largest jade Buddha in the world. The 7.95-meter high Buddha is engraved from the 261 tons of Jade King discovered in Xiuyan Man Autonomous County. The Jade Buddha Pavilion which houses the Jade Buddha is the grandest building in the garden, at the height of 33 meters.
