Vinashin Lion Steel Co. Ltd, a joint-venture company between our Group and Vinashin Group of Vietnam organised a Groundbreaking Ceremony of Ca Na Steel Complex in Ninh Thuan Province, Vietnam on 23 November 2008.
The ceremony was officiated by the Chairman of Ninh Thuan Province People’s Committee, Madam Hoang Thi Ut Lan with our Group Chairman and CEO, Tan Sri William Cheng; Chairman of Lion Industries Corporation Bhd, Tun Musa Hitam; Lion Group Executive Director, Datuk Albert Cheng; Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam, Datuk Lim Kim Eng; Party Secretary of Ninh Thuan Province, Mr Truong Xuan Thin; Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr Le Duong Quang; Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Transportation, Mr Nguyen Hong Truong and Chairman of Vietnam Shipbuilding Company Limited, Mr Pham Thanh Binh in attendance.
Also present were Lion Diversified Holdings Berhad Director, Tan Sri Dato Seri Aseh Che Mat; Parkson Holdings Berhad Director, Mr Yeow Teck Chai; and officials from Vietnam’s state and provincial authorities.
The Ca Na Steel Complex to be built on a 1,650ha area will have a capacity of 14.42 million tons of steel per annum over a period of about 15 years. Key products will be hot rolled coils, cold rolled coils, steel plates, galvanized & coated steel coils, H-beams, I-beams, steel pipes and other downstream products. When operational, it will be an important driving force not only to the steel and shipbuilding industry but also to the development of Vietnam’s economy. |
