Parkson Pavillion received “Innovative Shopping Outlet” award 2008 / 2009, from Tourism Malaysia on 9 January.



The Lion-Parkson Foundation assisted four independent schools in Kuala Lumpur to organize a Chinese New Year Calligraphy Exhibition from 30 January to 1 February to raise funds for needy students in these schools.


The Group Head Office moved to new premises at Office Tower, No 1, Jalan Nagasari off Jalan Raja Chulan in Kuala Lumpur, on 1st February.


Likom De Mexico received an acknowledgement plaque from Elcotec PCE Mexicana, for its commitment and support to Elcoteq Juarez factory for the year 2009, on 22 February.


Parkson opened four new outlets in China ; Shaoxing Parkson on 1 May, Sun Palace Parkson in Beijing on 3 September, Wuxi New District Parkson on 29 September and Hefei Parkson on 27 December, making a total of 47 Parkson stores in China todate.



The Chairman of Lion-Parkson Foundation, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for a Home for Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children in Banting Selangor on 30 September. The home will be built on a 4,017 acres land contributed by the Group.



Ngyuen Hong Joint Stock Company, a joint-venture company between the Group’s Parkland Saigon Ltd. Co. and the C&T Group organised the groundbreaking ceremony for MIKASA 15-storey luxury apartments on 13 October, in Vietnam.



The Malaysia Steel Association for upstream steel producers was launched on 2 November with Tan Sri William Cheng as its President. Amsteel Mills, Antara Steel Mills and Megasteel are among the 9 founding members of the association.


Parkson 1st Avenue in George Town, Penang opened on 18 November making it the 36th Parkson store in Malaysia.
